Tough Mudder Gears Up For An Epic 2015

    tough-mudder-2015

Because 2014 was such a huge year for Tough Mudder, we could only assume that the company would have some seriously epic events and new features planned for 2015. Well, we were right. Tough Mudder recently released a ton of exciting information about what’s ahead for the rest of the year.

The good news starts out with details about some of the new obstacles Tough Mudder participants will be encountering during their chosen events.

Funky Monkey 2.0 is one of the many obstacles created just for 2015. The first half of this obstacle is regular monkey bars, while the second half requires you to use a trapeze bar to swing onto and hold a descending pipe, where you will then shimmy down to your finish.

Everest 2.0 is an improved version of the orignal Everest obstacle, which has a harder-to-reach, much higher summit than before, and it will continue to remain one of the most challenging team-oriented obstacles you’ll find.

Arctic Enema 2.0 is the newest edition of the ice bath obstacle Tough Mudder is so well known for. This brutal obstacle forces you down a slide, under a chain-link fence, and then right into some frigid ice water. From there, you’ll have to get yourself over a wooden partition to finish.

Hold Your Wood 2.0 is another classic challenge that has been revamped at bit for 2015. Mudders will work together to carry a gigantic log through a stretch of big walls.

In addition to all this, Electroshock Therapy 2.0, the obstacle at Tough Mudder that often scares Mudders more than any other, is back with more voltage and a new “hot zone” that is full of even higher voltage wires.

Mudder Village obstacles are another great thing that has been added to the Tough Mudder experience, which are obstacles that official Mudder participants as well as spectators can participate in. Some of these Mudder Village obstacles include Fire In Your Hole — a water slide through fire, Ring Of Fire — a drop into a pool of water through fire, and Human Hamster Wheel — a constantly revolving set of monkey bars.

Tough Mudder also just released a video trailer about the upcoming 2015 season, which you can watch below.

To find a Tough Mudder event happening near you, the best place to look is on the Tough Mudder website. Also, you can see a full list of Tough Mudder obstacles here.

There are also a lot of video trailers available for the new obstacles added for 2015, which you can see here.

Huge BMX Park Hidden 100 Feet Underground in an Abandoned Mine

Right now, indoor BMX parks are all the rage in cities across America. But obviously, these parks are limited by the size of the buildings they inhabit. How to overcome that constraint? Well, you could find an old limestone mine in Kentucky and built a BMX in its cave-like remains.

That’s exactly what the owners of the Mega Underground Bike Park are doing. Next month, a 320,000-square-foot facility will open, 10-stories below Louisville, Kentucky. It features over five miles worth of interconnected trails, including countless ramps and obstacles. The park’s owners also say this is just the first of three phases in the development of the colossal underground park.

Perhaps the most compelling part of an indoor park the size of the Mega Cavern is how versatile it is—it’s essentially a massive blank canvas, which can be made and remade all the time. The owners say they’re using their own blend of “craft dirt” to build the obstacles.

More wooden ramps are on the way, too, but the designers recently told Outdoor Magazine about why they like dirt so much:

Dirt, you can tear it down and change it in a day, and it doesn’t cost you anything. With wood, every time you tear it down you lose some of the wood, so you have to buy more wood, buy more screws and nails. Dirt is very cost effective.

Shredding it up in a cave full of dirt is about as extreme as it gets. You can’t help but wonder, though: Where did they put the bathroom?

  • The Top 10 Most Extreme Foods

The Top 10 Most Extreme Foods

Whether it be sports of food, the word extreme means something a little different to everyone. When we’re talking about the most extreme food, it’s a tough call to make. Which specific quality makes a food the most extreme? Is it the one that burns a hole in your mouth, the dish so disgusting that just the thought of it makes your stomach turn or is it a plate so large it could feed a small village? With sports, rock climbing isn’t more extreme than whitewater rafting. They’re both extreme in their own ways. So here, we mapped out the world’s top 10 extreme foods, according to a range of intense categories, each one extreme in its own way.

    The Spiciest

Since 2012, South Carolina’s The PuckerButt Pepper Company has held the record for the spiciest chili in the world. It averages around 1,569,300 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), beating out the Bhut Jolokia, or the Trinidad Scorpion Butch T pepper, who’s hottest rating has come in at about 1.5 million SHU. The grand winner, The PuckerButt Pepper Company’s Carolina Reaper‘s hottest score was recorded at 2 million SHU.

    The Grossest

While a far more subjective category than spicy chilies, we’re pretty sure many will agree that breast milk cheese is one of the most extreme foods in the world, thanks to its dramatic ick-factor. In 2010, a New York restaurant made the news for serving cheese made from the chef’s wife’s breast milk. Since then, it’s become sort of an underground trend, and has even taken on the ice cream department in addition to cheese.

    The Most Expensive

Odds are, the most expensive food in the world cost more than your house… and it was a diamond-encrusted fruitcake worth $1.6 million in December 2005. The rich dessert came from Tokyo and took the baker half a year to design and create.

    The Most Poisonous

The fugu is so poisonous that only specially trained, expert chefs are allowed to serve it in incredibly thin slices. Although considered a rare delicacy, the fish’s intestines are filled with poison that’s 1,200 times deadlier than cyanide. One wrong bite and a tiny tingling in your mouth could result in death within only 17 minutes.

    The Heaviest

Guinness World Records documents a seemingly endless list of extreme foods, when it comes to size. From the biggest burrito (12,785.576 pounds) to the heaviest bagel 868 pounds, it seems that people have made the biggest of just about anything. The heaviest that we found, however, was the world’s largest pizza, which came in at the grand total weight of 26,883 pounds.

    The Longest

The longest noodle was made in Japan in 2007, measuring in at 1,800 feet and 2 inches. The longest string of licorice was 1,702 feet and 9 inches. The longest sandwich? This tasty lunch was cooked up in Lebanon in 2011, measuring a grand total of 2,411 feet and 5 inches. Now that’s what we call the master of all sandwiches.

    The Most Deep-Fried

Like the grossest food, the most deep-fried is also surprisingly subjective (and a little gross). We crown the deep fried butter, which is available at the Iowa State Fair, the greasiest, most deep-fried food of all time… and you thought we were going to say McDonald’s.

    The Rarest

One of the rarest foods in the world is a black watermelon only grown on Japan’s northern island Hokkaido. The Densuke watermelon supposedly tastes similar to the green and pink ones we munch all summer long, except sweeter. In 2008, one sold for $6,100, making it the most expensive watermelon ever sold in Japan, and possibly even the world.

    The Most Synthetic

Vegetarians around the world can rejoice over the world’s first lab-grown burger, which publicly announced its existence earlier this year, but has yet to perfect the science behind it. It may be a while before synthetic meat is available in grocery stores, but the meat of the future could mean big changes to the way we eat, making it one of the world’s most extreme foods.

    Most Dangerous

Believe it or not, many of us eat the most dangerous food, according to Time Magazineall the time. That’s because children choke on them so often. Apparently hot dogs are responsible for 17 percent of choking incidents in kids, making those wieners the riskiest food to eat.
