It wasn’t until 1953, after Mount Everest had been climbed, did the sport of climbing really start to evolve. Long gone are the days of wood-handled ice axes and thick woolen suits. Today, climbing has advanced quite a bit, both technologically and in the kind of challenges people set out to tackle. From alpine style high-altitude mountaineering climbs to daring free solo summits and indoor bouldering competitions, the sport of climbing is as gut-wrenchingly awesome as ever.
